Welcome:
Officiant: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of God and in the face of this congregation, to join together this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God Himself, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and His Church. This holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with His presence, and first miracle that he wrought, in Cana of Galilee. It is commended by Saint Paul to be honorable among all men; and therefore is not by any to be entered into, nor taken in hand, unadvisedly, lightly, or wantonly; but reverently, discreetly, soberly, and in the fear of God, duly considering the causes for which Matrimony was ordained.
Officiant: First, it was ordained for the increase of mankind according to the will of God, and that children might be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of His holy name. Secondly, it was ordained in order that the natural instincts and affections, implanted by God, should be hallowed and directed aright; that those who are called of God to this holy estate, should continue therein in pureness of living. Thirdly, it was ordained for the mutual society, help, and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity.
Officiant: Into this holy estate these two persons present come now to be joined.
The Declarations:
Officiant to Congregation: Therefore if any man can show any just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him now speak, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace.
Officiant to Bride and Groom: I require and charge you both, as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not be lawfully joined together in matrimony, ye do now confess it. For be ye well assured, that so many as are coupled together otherwise than God's word doth allow are not joined together by God; neither is their matrimony lawful.
Intention:
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____, wilt thou have this woman to thy wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?
Groom: I will.
Officiant: ___(Bride)_____, wilt thou have this man to thy wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only unto him, so, long as ye both shall live?
Bride: I will.
Presentation of the Bride:
Officiant: Who giveth this woman to be married to this man?
Bride’s Father (or chosen escort): I do. (Or: Her mother and I.)
(Bride's father or escort places her hand in Groom's hand.)
(Groom and Bride move forward to stand in front of Officiant.)
(Bride’s escort moves behind Bride and is seated.)
(Groom and Bride turn and face each other.)
(If Bride’s gown has a train, the Maid of Honor straightens it.)
Prayer:
Officiant: Let us pray.
Officiant: O God of our fathers, bless these Thy servants, and sow the seed of eternal life in their hearts; that whatsoever in Thy holy Word they shall profitably learn, they may in deed fulfill the same; that so, obeying Thy will, and always being in safety under Thy protection, they may abide in Thy love unto their lives' end; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Officiant: Amen.
Officiant: This is a reading from Psalm 45, The Royal Wedding Song.
My heart overflows with a goodly theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.
You are the most handsome of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you for ever. Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your glory and majesty.
In your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right; let your right hand teach you dread deeds. Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; the peoples fall under you.
Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever. Your royal scepter is a scepter of equity; you love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad; daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.
Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your people and your father’s house, and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him; the people of Tyre will seek your favor with gifts, the richest of the people with all kinds of wealth.
The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes; in many-colored robes she is led to the king; behind her the virgins, her companions, follow. With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king.
In the place of ancestors you, O king, shall have sons; you will make them princes in all the earth. I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations; therefore the peoples will praise you for ever and ever.
Exchange of Vows:
Officiant (To couple): Will you please join hands.
(Bride turns and gives her bouquet to the Maid of Honor.)
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____, repeat after me. I, ___(Groom)_____, take thee, ___(Bride)_____, to my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse: for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law; and thereto I give thee my troth.
Officiant: ___(Bride)_____, repeat after me. I, ___(Bride)_____, take thee, ___(Groom)_____, to my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse: for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law; and thereto I give thee my troth.
Blessing of The Rings:
Officiant: May I have the rings, please?
(Best Man gives rings to Officiant.)
Officiant: Bless, O Lord, these rings, and grant that he who gives it and she who shall wear it may remain faithful to each other, and abide in Thy peace and favor, and live together in love until their lives' end. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Officiant: Amen.
The Exchange of Rings:
(Officiant gives Groom the ring for Bride.)
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____, repeat after me. With this ring I thee wed; with my body I thee honor; and all my worldly goods with thee I share: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(Groom repeats and places ring on Bride’s finger.)
(Officiant gives Bride the ring for Groom.)
Officiant: ___(Bride)_____, repeat after me. With this ring I thee wed; with my body I thee honor; and all my worldly goods with thee I share: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(Bride repeats and places ring on Groom’s finger.)
Officiant: O Eternal God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, giver of all spiritual grace, the author of everlasting life: send Thy blessing upon these Thy servants, whom we bless in Thy name; that, living faithfully together, they may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made, whereof this ring given and received is a token and pledge; and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to Thy laws; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Officiant: Amen.
Unity Wine Ceremony:
(The Ceremony Table is directly behind Officiant. On the Ceremony Table there is one wine glass and two individual carafes of wine, one red and one white.) (Music: Orchestral Suite #3 In D, BWV 1068 - 2. Air, "On The G String" (Bach))
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____, will you please step forward to the Ceremony Table.
(Officiant steps behind the Ceremony Table. Groom and Bride step to the sides of the Ceremony Table facing their guests. The music plays softly during the following:)
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____ are going to perform a Unity Wine Ceremony as a symbol of their marriage. One carafe contains red wine representing the deep richness of the love in their hearts and the robust energy which keeps their loving relationship going. The other carafe contains white wine, fermented in oak barrels, it represents the strength of a loving marriage and a lingering taste in their soul for the love they feel for each other. They will combine some of the two wines into the Common Cup, creating a rose, which is symbolic of their blending together through a committed relationship in marriage. Some of the wine will remain in their individual carafes which represents that each of them remain separate individuals.
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____, you will now pour some of the wine from your individual carafes into the Common Cup.
(Groom and Bride pour their carafes of wine in the wine glass. Officiant picks up Common Cup.)
Officiant: Bless, O Lord, this drink and this cup. As Thou didst bless the six stone vases in Cana of Galilee and made wine out of water, so too deign to bless and sanctify this drink and this cup with Thy perpetual blessing: that whoever tastes of it may come to prosperity in the present age and be worthy of eternal joy in the next. Who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
Officiant: Amen.
Officiant: May the robust energy, strength, and rich love you have for each other be with you always. You may now share the Common Cup.
(The volume of the music may be turned up as Officiant hands Common Cup to Groom who drinks and then Groom hands it to Bride who drinks.)
(Groom and Bride return to their place in front of Officiant after Officiant moves back to his/her previous position.)
Prayer:
Officiant: This is a reading from Psalm 37.
Put thou thy trust in the Lord, and be doing good: dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thou in the Lord: and he shall give thee thy heart's desire. Commit thy way unto the Lord, and put thy trust in him: and he shall bring it to pass. He shall make thy righteousness as clear as the light: and thy just dealing as the noonday. Hold thee still in the Lord: and abide patiently upon him. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end.
Officiant: Amen.
Final Blessing:
Officiant: O God of our fathers, bless these Thy servants, and sow the seed of eternal life in their hearts; that whatsoever in Thy holy Word they shall profitably learn, they may in deed fulfill the same; that so, obeying Thy will, and always being in safety under Thy protection, they may abide in Thy love unto their lives' end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Officiant: May almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, pour upon you the riches of his grace. May He sanctify and bless you, that ye may please him both in body and soul, and live together in holy love unto your lives' end. Amen.
Pronouncement and Kiss:
Officiant: Forasmuch as ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____ have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, and thereto have given and pledged their troth either to other, and have declared the same by the giving and receiving of rings, and by joining of hands; I pronounce that they be husband and wife, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Officiant: Amen.
Officiant: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favor look upon you; and so fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace, that ye may so live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen.
Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ you may now kiss your Bride.
(Officiant steps to the side while couple kisses.)
Introduction as Husband and Wife:
