Officiant: Who brings this woman to be married to this man?

Bride’s Father (or chosen escort): I do.

(Bride's escort places her hand in Groom's hand.)

(Bride and Groom move forward to stand in front of Officiant.)

(Bride’s escort moves behind Bride and is seated.)

(Bride and Groom turn and face each other.)

Officiant: Please be seated.

Welcome:

Officiant: Friends and family, we are all here to witness a wedding. Today we unite ___(Bride)_____ and ___(Groom)_____ as husband and wife.  We rejoice with them that out of all the world, they had found each other, and that they will henceforth find the deeper meaning and richness of human life in sharing it with each other.

Officiant: ___(Bride)_____ and ___(Groom)_____, in presenting yourselves here today to be joined by this holy union, you perform an act faith.  This faith can grow, mature, and endure, but only if you both determine to make it so.  A lasting and growing love is never automatic, nor guaranteed by any ceremony.  Stand fast in that hope and confidence, believing in your shared future just as strongly as you believe in yourselves and in each other today.  Only in this spirit, can you create a partnership that will strengthen you all the days of your lives.

Officiant: It is often said that it is love that makes the world go round.  However, without doubt, it is friendship which keeps our spinning existence on an even keel. True friendship provides so many of the essentials for a happy life - it is the foundation on which to build an enduring relationship, it is the mortar which bonds us together in harmony, and it is the calm, warm protection we sometimes need when the world outside seems cold and chaotic.  True friendship holds a mirror to our failings, without destroying our sense of worthiness. True friendship nurtures our hopes, supports us in our disappointments, and encourages us to grow to our best potential.

Officiant:  ___(Bride)_____ and ___(Groom)_____ came together as friends not knowing where in life it would lead them.  After ___(number)_____ years of that friendship, they pledge to each other not only their love, but also the strength, warmth and, most importantly, the bond of true friendship.

Exchange of Vows: (Example of personally written vows.)

Officiant (To couple): Will you please join hands.

(Bride turns and gives her bouquet to the Maid of Honor.)

Officiant: Remember that love and faithfulness alone will provide a solid foundation for a long and happy marriage.  No relationship is more tender than that of a husband and a wife, and no promises are more sacred than those of marriage partners. Through the vows of marriage, you are saying that who you are, and who you want to be, can best be achieved through this union.  Your lives will change, your responsibilities will increase, but your joy will be multiplied if you are sincere and earnest with your pledge with one another.

Officiant:  ___(Groom)_____, it is your desire to become the husband of ___(Bride)_____, so please recite your vows to her.

(Officiant hands Groom his vows card.)

Groom:  I, ___(Groom)_____, reach out in love to receive you, ___(Bride)_____, as my wedded wife and from this day forward I will share my life with you.  I promise always to be faithful and honest in every way, to honor the faith and trust you place in me, to love and respect you in your success and in your failures, to make you laugh and to be there when you cry, to care for you in sickness and in health, and to be your intimate friend and honor you as an equal partner.

(Groom hands back his vows card to Officiant.)

Officiant:  ___(Bride)_____, it is your desire to become the wife of ___(Groom)_____, so please recite your vows to him.

(Officiant hands Bride her vows card.)

Bride: I, ___(Bride)_____, choose you, ___(Groom)_____, to be my husband.  I promise to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you and comfort you.  I promise to love you in good times and love you even more when life gets tough.  I promise to share your hopes and your dreams and to build a future full of love and happiness.  I will always choose laughter over tears and promise to never let you down.  I commit to be loyal, loving and honest until the end of my days.  I promise to not sweat the small stuff and to always have fun.  Today and this day forward I promise to always be the best wife I can be.  Together we will experience all that life has to offer and walk hand in hand into our future.

(Bride hands back her vows card to Officiant.)

Officiant:  ___(Groom)_____, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer?  To love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto her for as long as you both shall live?

Groom:  I do.

Officiant: ___(Bride)_____, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer?  To love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto him for as long as you both shall live?

Bride:  I do.

Prelude to Ring Exchange:

Officiant: May I have the rings, please?

(Best Man (and Maid Of Honor) gives rings to Officiant.)

Officiant: These rings are a symbol of unity into which your two lives are now joined in an unbroken circle.  Bless these rings which you give and receive this day.  They are a symbol of the shared love into which you enter together as husband and wife.

The Exchange of Rings:

(Officiant gives Groom the ring for Bride.)

Officiant: ___(Bride)_____, please repeat after me: ___(Groom)_____, this ring I give to you, as a token of my love and devotion.  I pledge to you all that I am and all that I ever will be.  Let this ring be a symbol of my promises to you and as a reminder of my devotion to you as I join my life in yours.

(Groom repeats and places ring on Bride’s finger.)

(Officiant gives Bride the ring for Groom.)

Officiant: ___(Groom)_____, please repeat after me: ___(Bride)_____, this ring I give to you, as a token of my love and devotion.  I pledge to you all that I am and all that I ever will be.  Let this ring be a symbol of my promises to you and as a reminder of my devotion to you as I join my life in yours.

(Bride repeats and places ring on Groom’s finger.)

Unity Sand Ceremony:

(The Ceremony Table is directly behind Officiant.  On the Ceremony Table there is a larger center vase with the individual containers of sand on either side.)

Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____, please step forward to the Ceremony Table.

(Officiant steps behind the Ceremony Table.  Bride and Groom step to the sides of the Ceremony Table.  A musical selection may play softly during the following:)

Officiant: Today this union is symbolized through the pouring of sand.  The two individual containers represent your separate lives, separate families, and separate sets of friends.  They represent all that you are and all that you will ever be as an individual. They also represent your lives before today.

Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ and ___(Bride)_____, please pick up your containers of sand.

(Bride and Groom each take their own container from the table.)

Officiant: As these two containers of sand are poured into the third, they no longer exist as two, but will be forever joined as one. Just as you will be forever as one.

Officiant: You may now pour your sand.

(The volume of the music may be turned up as Bride and Groom intermingle their sand in the center vase.)

(Bride and Groom then return to their previous places in front of Ceremony Table, after which Officiant moves back to his/her previous position in front of couple.)

Final Blessing:

Officiant: Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.  A good marriage must be created.  In marriage the little things are the big things.  It is never being too old to hold hands.  It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.  It is never going to sleep angry.  It is at no time taking the other for granted.  It is standing together facing the world.  It is forming a circle of love that gathers the whole family.  It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.  It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

Officiant: It is not looking for perfection in each other.  It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.  It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow old.  It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.  It is not only marrying the right partner; it is being the right partner.

Pronouncement and Kiss:

Officiant: Forasmuch as ___(Bride)_____ and ___(Groom)_____ have consented together to join their lives in the bonds of matrimony, and in as much as they have exchanged vows, and have given and received rings in the presence of these witnesses; I now pronounce, by the authority vested in me, and in accordance with the laws of the State of ___(State)_____, that they are husband and wife.

Officiant: ___(Groom)_____ you may now kiss your Bride.

(Officiant steps to the side while couple kisses.)

Introduction as Husband and Wife:

(Officiant steps back to previous position .)

(Maid of Honor hands the bouquet back to the Bride.)

(Bride and Groom turn to face guests.)
